This University is the proud
possessor of a magnificent library which has as its
nucleus 70,935 volumes of rare books, journals and
manuscripts donated by the liberal Darbhanga Raj in
1975. It is gathered from oral tradition that the Raj
library was built around the acquisitions made through
auction purchase of the personal library of the former
British Prime Minister Gladstone, whose signature and
notigs can indeed be seen on the pages of many books.
Besides these collections the University during the
course of last over thirty years has acquired over
1,60,000 volumes of Books and Journals. Hawards British
Parliamentary Debates, Gould’s sets of Pictorial Books,
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of
London, volumes of the Journals of the Royal Asiatic
Society of Bengal, the Asiatic Researcher, The Puneh
are some notable collections in the Raj library.
